Frequently Asked Questions
- we’ve got the answers.
Who can participate in the AI Hackathon?
The AI Hackathon is open to undergraduate and graduate students as well as new grads from all colleges and universities. We had 250+ universities represented in 2023 and are partnering with the Hacker clubs at other colleges throughout the US.
How many people can be on a single team?
Up to 4 people can be part of a single team.
Do I have to have a team to participate?
No. We will have team matching during the event itself, or you can come with a team or solo. Whatever works for you!
What experience level is needed to attend?
All experience levels are welcome!
Can I start on my project before the hackathon?
You cannot work on a project you started before the hackathon. Ideation before the hackathon is allowed, but all implementation must occur during the hackathon.
Do I have to be in-person?
Yes, you and your team will all have to be in-person at UC Berkeley to participate in the hackathon.
Do you provide travel reimbursements or transportation for hackers?
Unfortunately not—hackers are in charge of getting themselves to the venue. However, there’s reliable public transportation in the Bay, such as CalTrain, BART, and buses in Berkeley. The nearest airports are SFO and OAK, and there are various hotels around Berkeley including Residence Inn and Hotel Shattuck Plaza (Note: We are not sponsored by or partnering with these hotels).
